LIFE - Hypocritical...

Obviously Hurricane Katrina has been absolutely devastating to the effected area. It would seem the preparation was inadequate and the initial response to the aftermath was inadequate. People have died. People have lost everything. It's awful. It's hell on Earth. I look around and I'm thankful it's not me.

So every night this is one of the leading stories on the news, and rightly so. But my question is, where is the news story of the places where people live like this every day? Not because of a hurricane, but because they don't have enough food and water to live, let alone much of a roof over their heads. The G8 fucked up its last meeting. Nothing much seems to have come out of it. A bunch of (Mostly) middle aged or older white men running the world's most powerful countries agreed "Yes. It's awful. Something must be done" and then went back home to carry on with "What do I have to do to stay popular while in office to get re-elected or to get my party re-elected at the next election".

Back on to Katrina. Where is the rage at the (lack of) initial response to the aftermath? The US is controlled by a conservative right-wing government which may or may not be largely responsible for the post-Katrina state of affairs (I don't think it comes down to blaming Republicans as the Governor of Louisiana is a Democrat. I think it comes down to people make mistakes). Therefore the criticism would surely be lead mostly from the left. I don't hear anything...Are the Democrats so inept nowadays that they can't even rally to condemn the response to events created by Katrina? Well they couldn't win the last election to save themselves, so perhaps they can't. A current headline on CNN says “25-30 bodies have been found in a nursing home...”. Now imagine that rather than some complete strangers, that it was your parents. Now how do you feel?. "Mission accomplished" indeed...
